The Industrialisation of Nature – Documentary

This experimental montage consists of a non-chronological fast-paced sequence to demonstrate the effectiveness and time-saving process of mass production.

My interest to document the process of cheesemaking came from its misrepresentation in the media. Although widely portrayed and promoted as an artisanal product, a core element has facilitated its mass production for the past two centuries: machines. Here stemmed my interest: to document the industrialisation of cheese and its diverse interactions between its 3 core workforces: the animal, the human, and the machine.

By aiming to document the industrialisation of cheesemaking, this project aims not to criticise the presence of machines, but rather to celebrate its technological exploits and to accurately represent its presence in this day and age.

This project was made during my final year at the University of Warwick, forming part of an assignment for the module “Experimental Documentary”.
